Achieve the Maximum Benefit From Minimal Data Entry

One of the common myths of software, and perhaps business in general, is that you need a lot of data to make good systems and useful measurements. Small amounts of upfront data collection can have tremendous operational leverage when combined with the right tools and process. OA has worked with powerful assessment instruments developed over many years, with predictive power and validity that require in some cases less than 25 pieces of data. Our philosophy is that data collection adds no value in and of itself. It is effectively a cost for the user.

However, even a small amount of data collected specifically for the insight it delivers, analyzed by a rule engine, packaged in a notification to a key user, or fed to analytical reporting tools, can create significant leverage beyond the time it took to collect it. These are the types of applications that we target, where a small amount of data, when combined with software tools, provides an oversized return relative to the entry cost.

Perhaps the most common story we hear from users of large software systems, especially in the health care and government worlds, is that they enter a lot of data, change the way they operate to accommodate the system, yet they get little analytic data or reporting support for these efforts. One of our primary objectives is for this type of statement to never be made about any of our systems. We focus on keeping our system lean on the front end - advising our customers to collect only the data they believe will provide leverage in the campaign at hand, and empower them through notification, reporting and rule based operational decision advice.

SMR is built on the premise that organizations solve problems in similar ways. We try to measure, not necessarily to get a perfect answer, but to have a better handle on how we can approach a problem or challenge, and then design a solution... continue reading

Health Care providers face many different challenges that require them to measure in a new way. New regulations and reporting requirements appear frequently, aimed at decreasing the cost of care. In order to maintain margins providers have to be more efficient in how they manage data.... continue reading

One core principle of the SMR platform is that users should only enter the data required to solve the problem at hand. We strive to give the user the ability to achieve the maximum output, advice, and analytics from the minimum data entry burden possible.... continue reading

Readmission Rates will be a critical issue for hospitals in 2012. Any readmission in less than 30 days will result in a financial penalty to the hospital. This problem lends itself well to a data driven approach to both monitoring and improvement. SMRs newest module initiative continue reading

Speed to implementation is perhaps our most important metric. Every implementation is different, but our goal is to build a customized implementation of the SMR platform, with minimal work for the user overnight. We are constantly driving towards "Instant On" benefits from our systems. continue reading
